Gold Medal Park offers a spiral walkway to the top of a mound, with stunning views of the riverfront. The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, outside the Walker Art Center, is one of the largest sculpture parks in the country, featuring 11 acres of strolling paths and statuary. Downtown is also home to some major indoor attractions, including the Foshay Museum and the Mill City Museum. A dazzling number of theaters and sports venues are downtown as well.

Where to Eat

The intersection of Hennepin and Nicolle avenues is the heart of the theater district and is also a great place to find restaurants and nightlife. Dining options in this neighborhood include Mexican, steak, sushi, pizza, and more. Beer lovers will enjoy the Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery. If you’re looking for upscale chic options, step inside the Loews Hotel and enjoy a fine dinner at Cosmos followed by cocktails in one of the hotel’s elegant lounges.

Where to Shop

The Nicollet Mall, anchored by a two-level Target store and a Macy’s, is a favorite shopping destination for locals. You’ll find exclusive department stores and specialty retailers at the Gaviidae Common shopping center. If you’re visiting in the summer, you can also check out the Nicollet Mall Farmers Market on Thursdays or the Mill City Farmers Market on Saturdays.

How To Get Around

Downtown Minneapolis is very compact, and most people get around by foot. People also use the skyway system that connects some of the most popular attractions and buildings. If you do choose to drive, you’ll find plenty of convenient parking lots and metered street parking. Public transportation options include the Hiawatha Light Rail Line and a network of bus routes.

If you’re headed to downtown Minneapolis, you’re going to be pleasantly surprised. The city’s walkable streets offer a delightful experience for visitors, with loads of theater, sports, shopping, museums, and parks. This Midwestern town has its own unique, friendly flavor.
